Helping Out

Look here for ways to lend a hand.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Flagstaff Community Foundation in Dr. Avery’s name.  We do have a holding account set up for this purpose. You can make a donation directly by clicking the link above or you can mail a check to:

Flagstaff Community Foundation

For credit card donations, or further information please contact Pats Shriver or Gwen Groth at 928.526.1956 or email to

Thank you so much.

As of this morning, almost all of the Meal Train dates have been taken.  I am so amazed by the outpouring of love and kindness for the Avery family.  Thanks to everyone who has so generously offered their help.  There is a possibility that we may open more dates in the future, please check back here for information.

We have set up a Meal Train account where people can sign up to bring meals to the Avery family.  We have had so many generous offers, and we thank all of you.

If you would like to sign up for a date to deliver a meal go here.

Right now, the family seems to have plenty of food in the fridge (and even freezer!) However, we understand that people want to help, and food is definitely appreciated, so we will post updates here as to what the needs are, and we will try to coordinate with volunteers so that we don’t end up with an excess amount and have food  going to waste.

If you do drop food by, please keep these things in mind:

  • Use disposable dishes/containers.
  • There are coolers in front of the Avery house where you can drop food if you don’t want to intrude or no one answers.
  • Frozen or freezable dishes are great.

If you decide to take food to the house, there is a cooler on the front porch in case no one is at home or you don’t wish to intrude.

  1. I would like to help in anyway.

  2. please notify me at 928 266-1569 or 928 699-1569. Theresa Saunders

I would love to help in any way, but the most unique thing I can provide is time for Cora with my daughter Anna who is her loving friend, and the same for Thad with my son Ben. I can bring them to my house or bring my kids to yours, whichever way feels most helpful to your kids. Love, Chris

I can help in any way. Meals rotation is good. Sarah

  11. I can help where I am needed please just let me know!

  12. I advise a group of student leaders, the Kayettes, which Annette belonged to as an NAU student. They’re founded in giving back to the community, and especially would be generous with their time to give back to a fellow K-sister. They return to campus next week, and I’d like to suggest you contact them for any help the family might need around the house, such as cleaning, babysitting, yard work, you name it. Please email anytime a need arises, and I’m fairly certain we can find one, two, or 20 Kayettes to help.

    Dear Annette and Family,

We are so sad for your loss. This world will be a lesser place without Nate in it. He was so special in so many ways. We love him personally and cherish him so much as a consultant. He is a unique, eccentric and loving man. We can help in any way you need. Please put us in your meal plan rotation at the very least. Much love and many hugs, Paula, Brad, Julian and Wiley.
