Best Life Ever 5kish Run

Wednesday, 01/09/13

On January 15, Karma Sushi Bar Grill will host a very special Good Karma Tuesday to benefit the Dr. Nathan Avery Memorial Fund at the Flagstaff Community Foundation.
Inspired by Avery’s humor, intelligence, compassion and abiding love, his family, friends and former patients continue to keep his legacy alive through ongoing projects and charitable work in the Flagstaff community.
Ten percent of Karma Sushi Bar Grill’s proceeds on that day will support this endowment fund established to support of some of Avery’s favorite causes and nonprofit organizations. Donations may also be made online at

Nate was posthumously awarded the Platt Cline Award for Humanitarian Service.  Read the article in the Arizona Daily Sun here.

Tuesday, 10/9

There will be a fundraiser in Nate’s honor this Sunday, October 14, from 3pm to close at Kachina Restaurant in Flagstaff.  A portion of sales from this event will benefit the Flagstaff Community Foundation.  See you there!

Saturday, 8/25

What a night!   Thank you to everyone who participated in last night’s celebration for Nate.  It is abundantly clear there is an enormous amount of love for Nate in this community.  Thank you to all of the volunteers who came early to help set up chairs, blow up balloons, and hang pictures.  Thanks to the amazing staff at the Arizona Snowbowl, for working tirelessly to make this happen.  Thanks to Guardian Air Transport for their touching tribute to Nathan.

There are so many people who gave their time and effort to make this a memorable and touching memorial for a man who we all clearly admired.   Thank you all.

A Celebration of the Life of Nate Avery will be hosted by his family and friends at the lower Hart Prairie Lodge at Arizona Snow Bowl starting at 4:00 p.m. on August 24, 2012.  Following the program, there will be a celebration party on the deck.  Please dress appropriately for monsoon conditions at 9,000 feet of elevation.  In lieu of flowers, his family is requesting donations to the Flagstaff Community Foundation in Dr. Avery’s name.

Tuesday, 8/21

The outpouring of love and generosity from the community has been astounding.  Thanks to all who have the family in their thoughts and prayers.  We have had so many generous offers to help, the response has been overwhelming.  There is so much love for Nate and his family in the community!  We did set up a Meal Train account for the family last night, and when I woke this morning, almost all of the dates had been taken.  If you still want to help, and didn’t get a chance to sign up, please be patient.  As time goes by and we  are better able to gauge the family’s needs, we may open up more dates.  We will keep you posted here.  In the interim, I have made notes, and will let you know if the family needs anything.  If you do choose bring something in the future, there is a cooler outside the front door to leave food (please use disposable containers).  There is also a small metal box outside for gifts and cards for the family, as well as a condolence journal.

Also, I am working on a place where we can upload photos, but as of yet, have not had any luck.  With that said, if you have a photo of Nate that you would like to share or post, you can Email Me and I will upload it to the site. Please include “Nate Photos” in the subject line.
